Shinichi and Yasue, the self-taught artists behind Iida Woodturning, work exclusively with a lathe to celebrate the natural color and grain of wood. This hand-turned vase is an example of their signature earth finish. Inspired by the Japanese concept of sabi—which is dedicated to finding beauty in the natural aging process—it’s exposed to rain and soil to reach its distinctive texture and patina. Due to natural imperfections in the wood, this one-of-a-kind piece is only suitable for decorative use.
